Scores of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have hit the streets of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to protest against the results of the just-ended general election.

According to the protesters, they were told to hit the streets of Bolgatanga by their Member of Parliament(MP) Isaac Adongo to hit the streets, burn tyres and block the roads in Bolgatanga in protest against the verdict of the election.

To the protesters, they will only rest when the Electoral Commission declares John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the election.

“We are doing some demonstration here. Let the media know that the results they are giving us is fake. Honourable Isaac Adongo said we should burn the tyres. Our youth organizer is there. We are all angry, we are all annoyed,” one of the protesters told Bolgatanga-based Journalist Samuel Mbura.

What we are doing is nationawide and even in Techiman they are doing more than this. If they want peace in Ghana, they should do what is right. The EC should declare John Mahama as the President of the country,” another protester told Samuel Mbura.

The Police, however, moved in to disperse the crowd.

From the EC’s collated results, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo polled 6,730,413 which represents 51.59% of the total votes cast nationwide on December 7.

His closest contender, John Mahama of the NDC also polled 6,214,889 which gives him 47.36% of the total votes cast.

But the NDC believes that it won the elections but the Electoral Commission connived with the NPP to rig the elections.
