COVID-19 UPDATES: 2 more deaths recorded as Ghana’s case count hits to 7,117

Two more people have died of the novel coronavirus in Ghana according to the Ghana Health Service website.

This brings the total number of novel coronavirus deaths in the country to 34 as of May 26, 2020. According to the Ghana Health Service website, 153 new cases have also been recorded.

The development puts the country’s total positive cases count at 7,117.

Meanwhile, some 220 more persons have recovered from the disease.

The recoveries now stand at 2,317.

Regional breakdown

The Greater Accra Region is still leading the chart with 5008 cases, followed by the Ashanti and Western Regions with 1,085 and 344 cases respectively.

Meanwhile, Sekondi-Takoradi and Tarkwa in the Western Region are the new hotspots for Covid-19 Infection.

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Aboagye, made this known at the Covid-19 press briefing on May 26, in Accra.

According to him, the towns recorded 57 out of the156 new confirmed cases which have shot up the case count to 6,964 as of May 26.

The Greater Accra Region recorded 72 new cases while the Central Region recorded 23 new cases.

The Volta Region recorded 10 new cases while the Ashanti Region recorded four new cases.

Dr Aboagye said a team will be sent to the towns to help mitigate the spread of the infection.
