The Ghana Education Service led by Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, the Director-General, has clarified issues on preparation of lesson notes by Teachers.
The statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of GES Madam Cassandra Twum Ampofo said, the position of Management of Ghana Education Service on preparation of Lesson Notes by teachers is that Lesson Notes must be prepared and approved. This is being enforced strictly.
GES noted that, the issue, however, has been whether the Lesson Notes should be prepared manually or electronically, especially in the midst of the ‘One-teacher-One Laptop’ programme.
According to the Ghana Education Service, at a discussion with the Teacher Unions, the consensus was that for now, the system should be made as flexible as possible. That is, it should be based on agreement between the teacher and his/her supervisor.
Thus, where both teacher and the supervisor agree that it should be
prepared and submitted electronically, it should be allowed. Where it cannot be transmitted electronically, a print-out of the typed lesson notes should be submitted for vetting and approval.
Also, where for any valid reason, it cannot be prepared electronically, it should be done manually, based on agreement between the parties.
Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to emphasis that the feasibility of phasing out the manual preparation of lesson notes will be discussed at the appropriate time when every teacher has received his/her
laptop and trained.
The Service has served notice that, this should not cause any apprehension among any section of staff of the Service.
