The National Democratic Congress today, Monday, February 7, 2022 organized a press conference to express their grievances with the E-levy.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta is expected to withdraw the E-levy Bill from Parliament and propose a new one but the NDC do not want to have anything with it. They thus organized a presser to express their dissatisfaction and also threaten a demonstration this week.
The NDC were not on this alone. They were joined today at the press conference by the Association of Okada riders, Justice for Ghana led by Bernard Mornah, Coalition for Concerned University Students as well as the Coalition for NABCo trainees. All these unions stood firm with the NDC on the need to reject the E-levy. According to the Okada riders, they will have no option but to stop deliveries if the levy is passed.
The NABCo personnel also bemoaned the failed promises of the government to them. They bastardized the proposed You Start and noted that they cannot trust the government on this especially after NABCo has failed. The unions pledged to join the NDC on Thursday to demonstrate against the Akufo-Addo led government and force the government to drop the E-levy completely.
