The Tamale Central Constituency Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Issahaku Umar Farouk famously known as Chairman FK has proposed that Ex President John Dramani Mahama should be made to contest the 2024 Presidential Elections on the ticket on NDC unopposed.
The National Democratic Congress has released a timeline for conducting it’ s internal elections to select a flagbearer.
Although Ex President Mahama is the leading candidate, other aspirants are poised to give the former President a good run for his money. In Mr Issahaku Umar Farouk’ s opinion, the NDC Presidential primaries are unnecessary and the other aspirants should be disqualified to pave way for John Dramani Mahama.
First and foremost, he stated that John Dramani Mahama going unopposed will save the party millions of cedis owing to the fact that the party is in opposition.
According to him, most of these leading NDC members who are emerging to contest in the primaries are only there to add up to the numbers or only to make them popular.
Instead of wasting money to print several ballot papers for different candidates, Ex President John Dramani Mahama should be left to go alone. By so doing the party can save money and invest in th 2024 elections against NPP. Furthermore, the Tamale Chairman added that the 2020 Presidential results proves a fact that John Dramani Mahama is the perfect candidate to break NPP in 2024.
Among the other aspirants, he believes John Dramani Mahama is the only tried, tested and proven one who can lead the NDC to victory.
Meanwhile, the likes of Dr. Kwabena Duffour and other leading members of NDC have declared their intentions to contest in the upcoming primaries. Mr. Asiedu Nketiah on the other hand has emphasized that there won’t be any favouritism or partiality towards any candidate.
