Dr. Boako, speaking in an interview on Thursday, January 8, expressed deep concern over the scale and intensity of galamsey activities, describing the situation as one that poses serious risks to both the environment and the survival of local livelihoods.

According to him, residents are increasingly alarmed by the destruction caused by illegal mining and are calling for decisive state action to halt the crisis.

“The people of Tano North are pleading for NAIMOS to act. Galamsey is destroying us. It is gradually consuming our communities, and the situation is deeply troubling,” he said.

The MP explained that large tracts of farmland have been rendered unusable, water bodies polluted, and community infrastructure damaged as a result of unchecked mining activities. He warned that if the trend is allowed to continue, it could undermine development gains and worsen economic hardship in the area.

Dr. Boako therefore called on NAIMOS to strengthen enforcement operations, intensify surveillance, and work closely with traditional authorities and community leaders to effectively clamp down on illegal mining.

He stressed that immediate and sustained intervention is critical to safeguarding the health, safety, and long-term prosperity of residents in Tano North.
