Salary Increment:Newly Promoted GES Staff And Other Public Workers To Receive Between 1.7 And 3.4 Percent Increment-CHECK DETAILS.

Newly promoted government workers, including Ghana Education Service staff can only get a maximum of 3.4% of their monthly gross as a corresponding increase in their pay due to their promotion.

Government workers who have never been promoted usually will have mixed feelings when they are placed on their appropriate salary scale after their promotion.

Individuals can start to calculate their expected salary increase based on the educative information provided.

For a guide

This is how salary scale (sass) for Ghana Education Service staff is captured with regards to their corresponding ranks

A. For PS:

PSH16 for Prof

PSL16 for non-prof

PSH17 for Prof with responsibility

B. For ADII:

PSH18 for Prof

PSL18 for non-prof

PSL19 for Prof with responsibility

C. For ADI:

PSH19 for Prof

PSL19 for non-prof

PSL20 for Prof with responsibility.

D. And the salary scale for other ranks continue in that order.

Promotions in any endeavour has so many advantages, including self prestige. Also, there are usually monetary gains that accompany promotion in many workplaces. It is for this reason most people would like to take the opportunity for promotions at work.

In the case of government workers, especially in the country Ghana, where discussions surrounding salary levels are sacred, it has to take many workers long service to understand how their salary levels are structured.

The secrecy surrounding the discussion of salary levels misinformed many public sector workers to believe their next salary level would be an astronomical one and even unconsciously prepared their minds for that disappointment.

According to the single spine salary structure (ssss) which regulates the salary levels of public sector workers in Ghana, the movement of a worker’s salary from one salary level to the next higher level is based on three premises.

1. Through long service with annual jump in steps.

2. Through the performance of extra responsibility in an existing rank

3. Through promotion to the next rank

The movement of a promoted worker’s salary from one salary level to another salary level is the same or similar to change in steps or points on an existing level.

For example, when an Assistant Director II Professional G.E.S staff without extra responsibility on a salary scale at PSH18.5 is promoted to Assistant Director I and also without extra responsibility, his next salary scale will be PSH19.1. This means that he or she only moved by only one point, which is equivalent to a 1.7% increase according to the SSSS.

Quick facts

1. Salary relativity ratio in Single Spine Salary Structure is 1.7% for both vertical movements (change in point or step) and horizontal movements (change in level)

2. Every government worker can only move twice at most at a time.
