At least 34 people were injured early Saturday morning after a 34-seater KIA Grandbird bus overturned on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Asuboi, adding to growing safety concerns along the busy stretch.

The Suhum Municipal Fire Station said it received a distress call at about 2:55 a.m. and immediately dispatched a seven-member rescue team, led by Station Officer II Antwi Forson, to the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find the bus lying on its side, with the driver trapped inside. He was rescued using extrication equipment, while other injured passengers had already been transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical care.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the driver sustained serious injuries, while the remaining passengers suffered minor injuries and are receiving treatment.

The bus was partially damaged in the incident. Fire personnel later cleared debris from the roadway, allowing traffic to resume safely by 4:53 a.m.

The accident occurred barely a day after another crash on the same highway claimed five lives, renewing calls from residents and road safety advocates for stricter enforcement and improved safety measures on the Accra–Kumasi corridor.

Authorities have once again urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during late-night and early-morning travel.
