Aaron Asiedu Antwi, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticised the Attorney General’s reported proposal of splitting recovered stolen funds with criminals in a 60-40 arrangement.
Speaking on the Maakye show on Kessben TV, Mr. Antwi described the idea as both “outrageous” and “dangerous,” stressing that it sets a precedent that could weaken the fight against corruption and embolden wrongdoers.
He insisted that such an approach is unacceptable and undermines public trust in the justice system. “The Attorney General has set a dangerous and unacceptable precedent,” he said.
Mr. Antwi further argued that under previous NPP administrations, no such policy or compromise was ever considered in the fight against corruption. He urged government officials to take stronger, uncompromising measures to recover stolen funds and punish offenders fully under the law.
The debate has sparked public outcry, with many Ghanaians questioning the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts if criminals are allowed to benefit from their actions.
