A chilling incident in the Breman-Benin community of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region has left residents in shock after a 65-year-old woman was allegedly murdered and beheaded by her nephew.
The victim, identified as Madam Abena Gladys, was attacked on Monday, October 20, 2025, around 12:15 p.m., in what eyewitnesses described as a sudden and unprovoked assault.
According to reports, the suspect, Kojo Sam, forcibly entered his aunt’s room armed with a pestle. He allegedly struck her multiple times before dragging her outside, stabbing her repeatedly, and beheading her in full view of horrified neighbours.
Residents revealed that the suspect had previously issued threats against the victim during family disagreements. Relatives admitted that earlier warnings were not reported to the police, as they had hoped to settle the matter privately.
One neighbour described the scene as “beyond comprehension,” saying the community had never witnessed such violence before.
“We heard screams from her room, and by the time we rushed out, it was too late,” the witness recounted.
Following the gruesome act, the suspect fled the scene, prompting a coordinated search by local residents and the Ghana Police Service. Through intelligence efforts, officers tracked and arrested him later that same day. He is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The murder has left the quiet farming community deeply traumatized. Local authorities have urged residents to remain calm as the investigation continues, while also calling on families to report threats or violent behaviour early to prevent similar tragedies.
The body of Madam Abena Gladys has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, as police continue efforts to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crime.
