The Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has finally broken his silence on the incident at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, clarifying that he never insulted anyone and was, in fact, the one disrespected during the encounter.

Speaking on the matter, the Minister said the misunderstanding occurred when he questioned why a deceased patient had been left unattended in the hospital. According to him, his attempt to draw attention to the issue was met with hostility from a medical doctor on duty.

“Before God and man, I never insulted anyone. Instead, I was the one who was disrespected,” Mr. Akandoh stated.

He recounted that the doctor threw tantrums and spoke to him rudely, accusing him of making unnecessary fuss about the matter. The Minister said in the heat of the moment, he responded by telling the doctor,

“If you could talk to your sector minister like this, then with patients, it will be awful.”

Mr. Akandoh emphasized that the situation was blown out of proportion by the media, which falsely portrayed him as the aggressor.

“This case is dead, but people did not get the picture well because of how the media painted it,” he said.

He added that, following the incident, the hospital requested certain supplies, which the Ministry later provided. However, he stressed that this action was not an apology, as was widely reported, but part of his duty as Health Minister.

“After that, they requested for supplies which the Ministry gave out, and as a result, they made up a story that I was using that as a means to apologise. That was never the case, I was just doing my job,” he clarified.

Hon. Mintah Akandoh reiterated his commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the country and ensuring that both medical professionals and patients are treated with mutual respect and dignity.
