Dr. Ishag has attributed many of the challenges and alleged errors that occurred during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent primaries to the camp of Kennedy Agyapong and his team.

Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, Dr. Ishag stated that the confusion surrounding the primaries largely stemmed from the selective enforcement of the party’s constitution, particularly with regard to voting rights within TESCON.

“The NPP constitution clearly allows all TESCON presidents to vote, regardless of whether they were elected or appointed”, he said.

However, he alleged that appointed TESCON presidents were deliberately prevented from voting, despite their eligibility being clearly stated in the party’s constitutional provisions.

Dr. Ishag further claimed that TESCON patrons were also barred from participating in the voting process, even though the constitution explicitly grants them the right to vote.

“The TESCON patrons were also not allowed to vote, even though the constitution permits it”, he added.

He argued that these decisions undermined internal party democracy and contributed significantly to the disputes and dissatisfaction that followed the primaries, stressing that strict adherence to the NPP constitution would have avoided many of the problems recorded.
