The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has moved to quash rumours suggesting that transport fares will soon go up following the next fuel price review.

In a release dated October 8, 2025, the union made it clear that it has not announced any fare adjustment, insisting that its recent engagement with the government focused on stabilizing fuel prices, not increasing fares.

“Our plea to the government was simply for consistency in fuel prices as we enter the last quarter of the year,” the statement emphasized. “There are no discussions underway about fare increments at this time.”

The GPRTU noted that transport fare changes have ripple effects on the cost of living and the broader economy, hence any future decision would be taken cautiously and in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

The union is urging drivers and passengers to maintain existing fares and remain calm as talks with authorities continue.

“GPRTU remains committed to protecting both drivers and passengers. Should any adjustment become necessary, it will be communicated openly and in good time,” the statement concluded.
