Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has once again extended support to education in his constituency by donating free mattresses and chop boxes to 2,207 newly admitted Senior High School students.

The intervention, which comes at the start of the 2025/2026 academic year, is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians, many of whom struggle to meet the cost of basic boarding requirements for their wards.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the initiative forms part of his broader commitment to ensuring equitable access to education. “No child in North Tongu should be denied secondary education simply because their parents cannot afford a mattress or a chop box,” he said.

Beneficiaries and their families expressed profound gratitude, noting that the items will not only reduce costs but also motivate the students to concentrate on their studies. Local education authorities have commended the gesture, describing it as a practical step in complementing government’s Free SHS policy.

Observers note that this is not the first time the MP has rolled out such interventions. In recent years, he has supported students with scholarships, ICT training facilities, and teaching resources for schools across North Tongu.

Mr. Ablakwa reiterated his belief that investing in education is the surest way to transform lives and build a prosperous future for the constituency and the nation at large.
