Former Adentan MP Kojo Adu-Asare has ignited fresh political debate after openly advocating for a return of former President John Dramani Mahama to the nation’s highest office. According to him, Mahama’s leadership is still in high demand, and any constitutional restrictions standing in the way of his comeback should be tested in court.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Wednesday, Adu-Asare claimed that public sentiment strongly favours another Mahama presidency. “Ghanaians want him,” he stressed. “President Mahama deserves another term. If there is a constitutional barrier, we will test the law. Why not?”
Adu-Asare argued that Mahama’s governance experience and developmental vision position him as the most capable leader to steer Ghana through its challenges. He suggested that the country’s progress has been hindered by the frequent changes in leadership brought about by the four-year electoral cycle.
“Four years is simply not enough for the kind of transformation Ghana needs,” he said. “With longer-term leadership, we can sustain major projects that strengthen the economy and help us close the gap with developed nations.”
He further contended that Ghana’s trajectory would have been significantly better had Mahama remained in office for the past eight years, claiming that many citizens agree with this view.
Adu-Asare’s remarks come at a time when the political class continues to debate whether the constitution permits Mahama, who has already served one full term, to seek the presidency again. His call to “test the law” hints at a potential legal challenge that could reshape Ghana’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.
