Students of Afua Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School in the Ashanti Region have broken new ground in science and technology by designing a radio-controlled aircraft for the Ghana Air Force Aviation College.

The aircraft, named GHF Susan after one of the school’s third-year STEM students, was built to support practical aviation training for officer cadets.

The innovation was led by Engineer Ferdinand Sam, a tutor at the school, who guided the students through months of design, assembly, and testing. The completed aircraft was handed over to the College on Monday, October 20, 2025, in a brief ceremony at the base.

Mr. Sam said the project was part of the school’s effort to encourage girls to pursue hands-on STEM learning that can solve real national challenges. He expressed appreciation to the Air Force for opening its doors to the students and promised continued collaboration on similar projects.

Receiving the aircraft on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff, Wing Commander Ntiamoah praised the school’s creativity and described the gesture as “a shining example of how education and innovation can work together for national progress.”

The initiative highlights the growing confidence of young Ghanaian girls in science and engineering, a clear reminder that with guidance and opportunity, innovation has no gender.
