Residents of Ajiriba, a farming community near New Edubiase in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, are calling on government, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to come to their aid by providing safe drinking water.

The appeal was made when the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adansi South and the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase, Abdul Salam Adams, visited the community to assess their challenges.

According to the residents, their only source of water is contaminated with snails and other organisms, making it unsafe for drinking and domestic use. They lamented that the situation has led to frequent waterborne diseases, while schoolchildren often report late because of the daily struggle to fetch water.

Speaking during the visit, MP Abdul Salam Adams admitted that the water crisis in Ajiriba has persisted for more than four years. He assured the residents that Ajiriba is among 21 communities earmarked to benefit from a mechanised borehole project this year to improve access to potable water.

Community members expressed hope that the intervention would be delivered soon to save lives and improve living conditions.
