The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced significant progress in its ongoing fight against illegal mining, following a series of joint operations carried out by the Blue Water Guards and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

According to the ministry, the operations, conducted across parts of the Eastern and Western Regions, led to the seizure of 12 excavators, 20 changfan machines, and several other mining tools used for illegal gold extraction in water bodies and forest reserves.

Briefing the media on Friday, October 17, the Ministry’s Director of Communications, Ama Mawusi, reaffirmed government’s commitment to eradicating illegal mining and protecting the nation’s natural resources.

“For excavators, we got about 12 of them. We also picked about five motorbikes, four excavator batteries, some computer monitors, two heavy-duty water pumps, several fuel drums, and multiple makeshift structures,” she detailed.

She added that the operation also resulted in the destruction of 24 pumping machines and other equipment used by illegal miners.

Ms. Mawusi emphasized that the ministry will sustain these efforts in collaboration with security agencies to ensure that offenders are prosecuted and that Ghana’s water bodies and forests are restored.
