A man identified as Martin Issah, believed to be in his late 30s, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at Aketechieso, a mining community in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025, when Martin and his brother, Daniel Issah, were ambushed by armed men while returning home from mining work at Adomanu.
Reports indicate that the assailants demanded their gold detector machine before opening fire on the victims. Martin was shot in the face, dying instantly, while his brother sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape for help.
The Assembly Member for the Aketechieso-Amamuom-Anakyirem Electoral Area, Krobea Asante, confirmed the incident to Citi News, describing it as a worrying trend that poses a threat to the safety of residents.
“The area has become dangerous for miners and residents. We urgently need increased police patrols to prevent more lives from being lost,” Mr. Asante cautioned.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue, while his injured brother is receiving medical treatment. Police have since launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators.
