ASANTEHEMAA’S BURIAL: ESSENTIAL SERVICE STAFF IN KUMASI DIRECTED TO WEAR UNIFORMS AND CARRY IDS

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has reminded residents in the Greater Kumasi Metropolis to strictly observe directives from the Manhyia Palace as final funeral rites are held for the late Queenmother, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

As part of the arrangements, schools and markets across Kumasi will remain closed for the day. However, certain essential services have been excluded from the restrictions. These include pharmacies, banks, fuel stations, restaurants, transport operators, utility companies, and emergency services such as the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Water Company, and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Directives for Easy Identification

In a press release signed by Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the ARCC instructed that all essential workers must:

Report to duty in their official uniforms
Carry valid identification cards
Use their designated government vehicles for movement

The statement further urged these exempted groups to fully cooperate with security agencies and regulatory bodies that will be deployed to enforce the restrictions.

A Word of Caution

Residents and exempted workers alike are being cautioned to adhere strictly to the guidelines. Security personnel will be on high alert, and any disregard for the regulations could lead to punitive actions or unfortunate confrontations. For this reason, the ARCC is calling on the public to comply fully in order to maintain peace, dignity, and safety during this solemn national event.
