The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has begun efforts to ensure that all streetlights on major roads across the Ashanti Region are repaired and fully functional ahead of the Christmas festivities.

The initiative forms part of measures to improve visibility, enhance road safety, and create a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors who will be traveling within the region during the festive season. Faulty streetlights on key highways and urban roads have long been a concern, particularly at night, with implications for security and traffic safety.

The exercise covers principal roads within Kumasi and extends to major highways linking the regional capital to other parts of the country. Technicians have already begun assessment and repair works, with priority given to high-traffic areas expected to record increased movement during the Christmas period.

Dr. Amoakohene have emphasized that adequate street lighting is critical not only for festive convenience but also for crime prevention and the overall image of the region. He noted that the Ashanti Region, as a major commercial and cultural hub, must remain safe and accessible, especially during peak travel seasons.

Residents have welcomed the intervention, expressing hope that the repairs will be completed in good time and maintained beyond the festive season to ensure lasting benefits for road users and communities.
