The Deputy Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, has strongly condemned attempts to attack the NPP Presidential aspirant, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia based on his ethnic background, describing such tactics as unacceptable in Ghana’s democratic space.

“Attacking Dr. Bawumia’s roots is a no-go area. If that is your angle, then maybe you are not fit to be on the ballot,” Dr. Amoakoh stated.

She stressed that leadership should be evaluated on competence and ideas, not personal attacks. “Leadership is about merit, not mudslinging,” she said, warning that politics driven by identity and insults detracts from meaningful national discourse.

According to Dr. Amoakoh, Dr. Bawumia’s leadership philosophy is grounded in inclusivity and excellence. “He does not care about where someone is from or who you are. All he is interested in are people who are sharp-minded and diligent,” she noted, adding that “Dr. Bawumia is for all.”

She further referenced the history of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as a political tradition built on inclusion. “If you look at the history of the NPP, from its founding groups and members, you will see that it has always been an inclusive party,” she said.

Dr. Amoakoh concluded by urging political actors to focus on issues that advance national unity and development rather than resorting to divisive narratives.
