The Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that the Attorney General’s Department has written multiple letters to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) requesting the official docket on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to enable the government to initiate extradition processes from the United States.
According to Dr. Srem-Sai, despite several formal correspondences, the OSP has not yet responded, delaying progress on the extradition procedures.
He explained that without access to the OSP’s investigative documents, the Attorney General’s Department lacks the legal foundation required to trigger the necessary international collaboration for Mr. Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana to face the law.
“We have written to the Office of the Special Prosecutor on more than one occasion seeking the docket to begin extradition proceedings. Unfortunately, we have not received any response to date,” Dr. Srem-Sai stated.
The revelation has stirred public debate over coordination between key state institutions and the pace of legal action concerning the former minister.
Ken Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana’s Finance Minister for nearly eight years, is reportedly residing in the United States, following a series of corruption-related investigations initiated by the OSP.
