Bawumia is Ghana’s biggest political figure after Mahama – Sammi Awuku on Asempa FM

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has described Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most prominent political figure in Ghana after President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Sammi Awuku argued that Dr. Bawumia remains the most popular political face among Ghanaians who participated in the 2024 elections, even as the voters’ register is expected to be updated.

“Ghanaians who voted in 2024 know that after President Mahama, the most popular political face is Dr. Bawumia,” Awuku stated.

He rejected claims that Dr. Bawumia was a weak candidate, insisting that the former Vice President ran a solid and effective campaign.

“If someone tells me Bawumia was not a good candidate, I ask myself what more he should have done. He ran a very good campaign,” he said.

Awuku also dismissed assertions that Dr. Bawumia only performed well in the Effutu Municipality, describing such claims as misleading. According to him, Dr. Bawumia won in several polling centres across the country, including Takoradi Arabic School and other Zongo communities during the 2024 presidential election.

“It is false that he did not win any zone apart from Effutu. He won in Takoradi Arabic School and other Zongo areas. He won in several centres,” he emphasized.

The Akuapem North MP stressed that Dr. Bawumia should be assessed based on his character and policy ideas rather than electoral propaganda.

“Bawumia should be judged by the content of his character and the ideas he brings on board. He has very good ideas,” Awuku noted.

He cited one such proposal, which involves establishing a welfare desk at the constituency level to support party members and grassroots supporters. According to Awuku, the initiative would rely on proper data collection to accurately assess the needs of party members and provide targeted assistance.

“He wants to set up a welfare desk at the constituency level so party members can have access to resources. But first, data will be collected so the needs of the people can be properly analysed and addressed,” he explained.
