Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia chose to celebrate his birthday in a touching way, by bringing smiles to the faces of sick children and their families at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a delegation led by his Special Aide, Akosua Manu, visited the Department of Child Health on his behalf to settle outstanding medical bills and donate essential medicines for children receiving care.
The team presented over GHS 80,000 to the hospital to support families struggling to pay for their children’s treatment.
Speaking during the presentation, Ms. Manu explained that the initiative reflected Dr. Bawumia’s enduring compassion for children, especially those battling illnesses under difficult circumstances.
“Dr. Bawumia has always had a soft spot for children. He believes that no child’s life should be put at risk because their parents cannot afford medical care. This gesture is his way of spreading love, faith, and hope on his special day,” she said.
Hospital staff and ward supervisors who received the funds expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the donation as a lifeline for families in distress.
“This has lifted a huge burden off parents who had lost hope. We are deeply grateful for this act of kindness,” one of the ward in-charges shared.
The visit created an atmosphere of joy and relief across the wards, as nurses, parents, and children joined in offering prayers and warm wishes for the former Vice President.
The gesture, they said, reflects Dr. Bawumia’s belief that true leadership is measured by empathy and service to humanity, not titles or position.
