Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader in Parliament and National Campaign Coordinator for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed insights into the recent NPP presidential primaries, commenting on the voting outcomes and campaign dynamics. He spoke on Angel FM, Kumasi.
According to Mensah-Bonsu, their internal research correctly predicted that Kennedy Agyapong would not cross the 25 percent threshold, but the unexpected surge in votes for Dr. Bryan Acheampong caught them by surprise.
“Per our research, we knew Kennedy Agyapong would not cross the 25% mark, but we were shocked by the votes Dr. Bryan Acheampong amassed,” he said.
“We were not shocked by Kennedy’s results because we knew our strength and who would vote for Dr. Bawumia. Our nationwide research had projected around 65%, with a margin of plus or minus 5% to account for voter variability,” Mensah-Bonsu explained.
The former majority leader highlighted that when the final results showed Bawumia’s share dipping below their projection, it reflected the strength Bryan Acheampong brought to the race.
“All the polls were giving him lower percentages, but he exceeded them, taking about 4% from us and another 10% from elsewhere,” he said.
Mensah-Bonsu also dismissed claims that Kennedy Agyapong would secure a strong second place or even win, reaffirming that their data and projections accurately captured the party’s dynamics.
“Those who said Ken would register a strong second or win, we knew that would not hold,” he added.
