Two people are in critical condition while several others sustained injuries after a sudden swarm of bees attacked mourners during a funeral at Agona Otwii-Krom in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

The incident occurred at the community durbar grounds near Agona Kwanyarko, where residents had gathered to mourn two deceased persons. Eyewitnesses reported that the bees, emerging from an unknown source, descended on the crowd unexpectedly, causing panic and chaos.

Albert Quainoo, former Assembly Member for the Agona Fawumanya Electoral Area, confirmed the attack to Adom News. He said the swarm spread throughout the community, stinging not only people but also animals, including sheep, goats, and cattle that were passing along the main street.

Describing the event as unprecedented, Mr. Quainoo noted that the entire community has been left in shock. He further recounted that the grief of the residents had already been heightened by a road accident the previous Friday that claimed the lives of two mourners traveling from Akyem Apradi to attend the funeral.

The sudden bee attack forced family heads and opinion leaders to abandon the funeral, and many residents are reportedly afraid to return to the community centre to continue rites scheduled for Sunday, fearing another attack.

Authorities and local leaders are yet to provide guidance on measures to safely resume funeral activities.
