Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani GoldStars, Akwasi Adu, has publicly apologised to former head coach Frimpong Manso after reports misquoted him following the coach’s dismissal.

Manso, who steered the Miners to their maiden Ghana Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, was shown the exit after a 2-0 loss to Algerian side JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League preliminary round last week.

Some reports quoted Adu as likening Manso’s dismissal to that of former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss José Mourinho, sparking widespread backlash.

But speaking on Luv FM, the GoldStars CEO denied making the alleged remarks and insisted his words had been taken out of context.

“I granted an interview, and I’ve seen a lot of paraphrasing and misquoting of statements I would never make,” he explained. “Let me take this short moment and apologise to the coach, because people are saying things I’ve never said anywhere.”

Adu praised Manso’s contribution, describing him as a history-maker for leading GoldStars to their first-ever league crown.

“He has made his monumental statement with Bibiani. Being the first coach to win us a title, he deserves all the respect,” Adu noted.

He clarified that he only made a general reference to the fact that even successful coaches across the world sometimes lose their jobs, but never meant to downplay Manso’s achievements.

Meanwhile, assistant coach Yaw Amankwah has been tasked with leading the side in their decisive return fixture against JS Kabylie at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium on Sunday, September 28.
