The Black Princesses of Ghana launched their WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup title defence with an impressive 2-0 victory over hosts Benin on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Goals from Linda Owusu Ansah and substitute Sarah Nyarko handed Ghana a confident start under head coach Charles Sampson, setting the tone for another strong campaign.

The defending champions dominated the opening exchanges, with their sharp wing play stretching the Beninese defence. Despite creating several chances, they struggled to find an early breakthrough until the 23rd minute, when a precise long pass from Diana Amoako found Agnes Yeboah, who selflessly squared the ball for Owusu Ansah to slot home the opener.

Benin posed little attacking threat in the first half and went into the break trailing by a goal.

After the interval, coach Sampson made an inspired substitution, introducing Sarah Nyarko for Agnes Yeboah. The change proved decisive, as Nyarko made an immediate impact by doubling Ghana’s advantage in the 78th minute, effectively sealing all three points.

Dynamic midfielder Latifa Musa was named Player of the Match for her commanding control and creativity in midfield.

The victory gives Ghana an early edge in Group A as they prepare to face archrivals Nigeria on Saturday, November 8, in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
