A fierce midday fire has destroyed a seven-bedroom house at Wangara Line near Atomic Hotel, close to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital in the Bono East Region.

The blaze, which spread rapidly before rescue efforts could be mobilized, left several families homeless and wiped out all their belongings, including cash, furniture, jewellery, and electronics.

An eyewitness, a lotto agent who arrived early at the scene, recounted the desperate situation: “By the time the Fire Service arrived, the harm had already been done.”

One of the victims, Auntie Adwoa, stood distraught as she watched her home burn. “I’ve lost everything… I don’t even know where to start,” she said in tears.

According to ADO I Francis Opoku, Acting Regional Operations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preliminary investigations suggest that a delayed report of the fire and the presence of combustible materials worsened the destruction.

The GNFS has since cautioned the public to ensure proper electrical installations and keep fire extinguishers at home, particularly as the dry season heightens the risk of domestic fires.
