The management of FGR/Blue Gold Ghana Limited is demanding that government either reinstates its mining lease for the Bogoso-Prestea concession or provides full compensation for what it describes as an “unlawful takeover” of its operational rights.

According to the company’s Acting Managing Director, Mr. Yiadom Boakye Amponsah, the Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources acted improperly in transferring the lease to Heath Goldfields Limited, claiming the process violated the country’s mining laws.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr. Amponsah said the lease, which was revoked in September 2024, was still valid when the Bogoso-Prestea mine was handed over to Heath Goldfields. He maintained that Blue Gold had not been formally stripped of its rights through any transparent or legal process.

“We were still the rightful leaseholders when this transfer was made. The ministry and the Minerals Commission did not follow due process. Either our lease is reinstated, or we must be duly compensated. The law is clear on this,” he stressed.

Mr. Amponsah, who boasts over four decades of experience in the mining industry, expressed disappointment at what he called selective treatment of mining firms in Ghana. He questioned why companies with compliance challenges and even links to galamsey operations continue to retain their licenses, while Blue Gold has been sidelined.

He argued that had the Ministry acted appropriately, the ongoing dispute over the Bogoso-Prestea mine could have been avoided entirely.

“If the right procedures had been followed, this problem would not exist today. We only seek what the law entitles us to, either the restoration of our lease or fair compensation,” he said firmly.

The controversy surrounding the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, one of Ghana’s historic gold concessions, continues to attract attention as stakeholders await an official response from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
