Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu-Asare, has predicted that although the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is unlikely to win the 2028 general elections, the party’s long-term future rests in the hands of Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the former MP said the NPP is currently grappling with internal disunity and credibility challenges, which require strong leadership to overcome.
According to Mr. Adu-Asare, while Kwabena Agyapong is best positioned to lead and rebuild the party in the short term, Bryan Acheampong embodies the NPP’s long-term potential and renewal.
“Bryan holds the future for the NPP. The NDC will not lose the elections in 2028, the NPP should forget about winning,” he remarked. “My first choice for them right now, to strengthen the party, is Kwabena Agyapong. They need someone like him at this stage.”
He argued that unless the NPP prioritizes unity and internal restructuring, it will struggle to regain political strength.
“They won’t win unless they work on unifying the party. It needs to be built on a strong foundation for the future, and that’s where I see Bryan Acheampong playing a major role. These two, Agyapong and Acheampong, are the ones who can help the NPP rebuild,” Mr. Adu-Asare emphasized.
He added that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) currently enjoys a stronger political footing and is well-positioned to retain power in 2028.
“The NPP is not in good shape right now, so they need someone who can bring them together. I see that potential in Kwabena Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong represents the future. The other aspirants seem to be competing for attention, but Kwabena Agyapong is the only one doing genuine politics,” he observed.
Mr. Adu-Asare concluded by advising that Dr. Acheampong should wait for the right time to pursue leadership ambitions to avoid political pitfalls that could harm his future prospects.
“If Bryan aspires now, there are things that could work against his long-term future. For now, it’s clear that the NDC is performing well and will likely continue in government beyond 2028,” he added.
