Millicent Safo-Adu has revealed that during her formative years and time at the KNUST, most of the romantic attention she received came from young men within the church because her social life revolved almost entirely around religious activities.

Speaking on Asatena Pa with Akoto Mansa, Safo-Adu explained that her upbringing limited her social interactions largely to the church community.

She said her father, a Methodist pastor, maintained strict control over their upbringing, restricting their exposure to outside social environments.

Because of this, she explained, her circle of friends and associates was almost entirely church-based.

As a result, most of the young men who showed interest in her came from the same church environment.

“Men used to worry me but it was not excessive. It was usually in church; they wanted me to be their beloved,” she said.

Despite the attention, she said her involvement in church activities helped her remain focused on her goals and personal development.

According to Safo-Adu, the church became more than just a place of worship; it also served as a supportive community where members looked out for each other.

“The church has really helped me. We were like a family, always looking out for each other,” she noted.

She explained that her strong engagement with the Ghana Methodist Students’ Union during her university days also shaped her leadership skills and personal discipline.

Her commitment to the fellowship eventually led to her election as the first female president of the organization, a role she says required maturity and responsibility.

While balancing leadership roles and academic work, Safo-Adu said she remained careful about the kind of relationships she entertained.

Her church environment, she explained, helped guide many of the decisions she made during that period of her life.

Today, she believes that the values and support system she experienced within the church played a major role in shaping her character and focus.

Looking back, Safo-Adu says the experience helped her understand the importance of surrounding oneself with people who encourage growth and purpose.
