A member Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Kwesi Botchway, has rejected claims that Dr. Bawumia is the worst-performing presidential candidate in the history of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing such assertions as misleading and unsupported by facts.
Speaking on the matter, the private legal practitioner compared Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 electoral performance with that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor. “It is not true that Dr. Bawumia is the worst-performing candidate in the history of the NPP. Former President Kufuor had 39 percent in 1996, while Dr. Bawumia secured 41.7 percent in 2024. Which of these performances is worse?” he questioned.
Mr. Botchway further revealed that former President Kufuor personally encouraged Dr. Bawumia, drawing from his own political experience. “In a conversation between the two some time ago, President Kufuor encouraged Dr. Bawumia that he could make it, because he himself made it during his timedespite the challenges. I was there during that conversation,” he disclosed.
He also dismissed narratives suggesting that Dr. Bawumia lacks electoral appeal. “People are saying Dr. Bawumia is not attractive and that no matter how many times we bring him to contest he will not win. This is not true,” Mr. Botchway stated.
According to him, such claims undervalue Dr. Bawumia’s political growth and performance. He urged party members and the public to assess leadership prospects based on facts, consistency, and long-term potential rather than unfounded perceptions.
