A contractor has reportedly shut down portions of the Asikuma Odoben Senior High School (AOSS) in the Central Region over a 14-year-old unpaid government debt.
According to reports, the contractor, who undertook major construction works at the school more than a decade ago, says repeated attempts to recover his payment have proven futile.
He revealed that several letters and reminders sent to relevant government agencies and the Ministry of Education have gone unanswered, leaving him with no option but to take action.
The shutdown has sparked concern among staff and students, as it affects access to key facilities on campus. Some residents and education stakeholders have called on the government to urgently intervene and settle the contractor’s arrears to allow academic activities to continue smoothly.
The contractor insists that until the longstanding debt is cleared, he will not reopen the facility for use.
