The High Court in Accra has adjourned the hearing of two separate cases involving the former Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Asibey Antwi, and his former deputy, Gifty Oware-Mensah, after both failed to appear before the court on Friday.
Mr. Antwi’s legal representative appeared in court on Thursday and informed the presiding judge that his client had been instructed to report to police investigators in Kumasi, where he is currently assisting with ongoing investigations. The lawyer also noted that the defence team had not yet received an official charge sheet from prosecutors.
The court consequently ordered that the charge sheet and hearing notices be formally served on the accused before the case is recalled for further proceedings.
In a related development, the court also postponed the case involving Mrs. Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the NSA, following a report that she had submitted a two-day medical excuse duty. Her case has been rescheduled for hearing next week.
Both former officials are under investigation in connection with alleged financial and administrative irregularities within the National Service Authority.
According to court filings, the state alleges that more than GH¢653 million was lost through fraudulent practices, including the creation of ghost service personnel and the acquisition of fake bank loans.
Prosecutors contend that Mr. Antwi and Mrs. Oware-Mensah separately masterminded financial schemes that diverted public funds from the Authority’s accounts into private channels.
The adjournments mark another delay in a high-profile corruption scandal that has attracted national attention, as many Ghanaians await the court’s next move on what could become one of the most significant public service fraud cases in recent years.
