A 25-year-old labourer has been remanded into prison custody by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality over allegations that he threatened to kill his mother during a domestic dispute.

The accused, Dauda Bediako, also known as Dauda Abdulai, pleaded not guilty to a charge of threat of death when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo. He is expected to reappear on January 27, 2026.

Presenting the facts, Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu told the court that the complainant, Mariama Haruna, lives with her son at Nkawie New Site.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on January 5, 2026, at about midday, when the accused allegedly harvested two bunches of plantain from his mother’s garden without her consent.

When the complainant confronted him and attempted to retrieve the plantain, the accused is said to have become aggressive, brandished a cutlass and threatened to kill her if she persisted.

The court was told that the complainant, fearing for her safety, fled the scene and reported the matter to the Nkawie Police.

The accused was subsequently arrested but denied the allegation in his caution statement. After investigations, police charged him and brought him before the court.
