The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has taken a swipe at the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of failing to live up to its own lofty promises to end illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

In a strongly worded statement on his facebook post, Mr. Aboagye claimed that the current escalation of galamsey activities across the country is happening under the very party that once vowed to end the menace if given the mandate to govern.
“The NDC government cooked this level of pressure from opposition. They spoke big and made big promises to stop galamsey should the people give them power,” he said.
He criticized the NDC for what he described as a lack of accountability, arguing that instead of acting on their campaign pledges, government officials now appear defensive and intolerant of public criticism.
“The people are simply asking them to act and fulfil their promises, but instead they are crying and issuing threats to their critics. That’s unfair,” he lamented.
According to Mr. Aboagye, the devastating environmental destruction currently witnessed in mining communities is evidence of the NDC’s failure to deliver on its much-publicized six-point plan to combat illegal mining.
“Galamsey has escalated, and we are seeing and experiencing it in its most devastating form like never before. This is happening under a party that said big things in opposition. Surely, people will talk and complain, and rightly so,” he said.
He further challenged the NDC administration to take decisive action to address the issue rather than shifting blame, insisting that the problem of illegal mining was first nurtured under the NDC’s own tenure.
“Simply act on your six-point promise and fix the galamsey mess. After all, galamsey in its current form is an NDC monster, and you should have the antidote,” he declared.
Mr. Aboagye ended his statement with the hashtags #GalamseyEnablers and #GalamseyEvidence, reinforcing his party’s position that the NDC bears historical responsibility for the illegal mining menace and must take decisive steps to reverse its impact.
