The final funeral rites of veteran Ghanaian disc jockey and long-serving Multimedia Group staff member, Samuel Tei Mensah Nartey, popularly known as DJ Awana, will be held today, Saturday, September 27, 2025.
He will be laid in state at the Aggrey Road School Park in Tema Community 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., followed by a burial service at the same venue. Interment will later take place at the Prampram Cemetery.
DJ Awana, aged 47, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the 37 Military Hospital after a short illness.
Born in 1978, he began his illustrious media career over two decades ago with Adom FM, back when the station was headquartered in Tema. His calm demeanor, humility, and remarkable ability to curate music earned him a reputation as one of the finest DJs in Ghana’s media and entertainment space.
He became a household name not only on radio but also at live events, where his presence behind the turntables brought joy to countless audiences.
DJ Awana is survived by three children: Beatrice Dede Nartey, El-Nathan Duodu Nartey, and Nelson Nartey Kabutey. He also leaves behind siblings, aunties, nephews, and an extended family who deeply mourn his loss.
Friends, colleagues, and sympathizers from across the country are expected to gather in Tema to bid farewell to a man whose music touched lives and whose legacy in Ghanaian broadcasting will long be remembered.
