Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, the Dormaahene and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, has issued a stern warning to illegal miners, saying Dormaa will not be allowed to become a safe haven for galamsey. He emphasized that lands, rivers and forests must be protected from the destructive effects of illegal small-scale mining.

Speaking recently at a crackdown operation in communities identified as galamsey hotspots, including Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, and Kobedi, the Dormaahene said his office, together with security agencies, would intensify monitoring and enforcement actions to prevent environmental destruction in the area.

During the operation, three suspects were arrested. Authorities also seized seven water-pumping machines and other mining equipment allegedly used in illegal mining.

Dr. Badu called on residents to support the campaign by reporting suspicious activities, stressing that the illegal mining menace threatened the future livelihoods of the people and the health of their natural resources. He described galamsey as a grave existential threat, pointing to ongoing degradation of land and pollution of water bodies in affected areas.

He made it clear that Dormaa Traditional Area would resist any attempt by illegal miners to extend their operations, and that traditional leaders under his authority would work in concert with law enforcement to ensure accountability
