Renowned historian and legal practitioner, Lawyer Yaw Anokye Frimpong, has expressed concern over the continued public comments made by the Dormaahene against the Asantehene, warning that such actions could pose a serious threat to Ghana’s peace if left unchecked.
Speaking on Ezra Radio, Lawyer Frimpong described the situation as worrying and said the silence of key peace-building institutions could worsen tensions.
According to him, persistent attacks by a traditional leader against another carry dangerous implications in a multi-ethnic society like Ghana. He noted that such rhetoric has the potential to turn ordinary disagreements into ethnic confrontations.
“What the DormaaHene is doing is not right and could create serious problems for the country,” he said.
He explained that inflammatory statements, especially from influential figures, could easily trigger violence at the community level, with far-reaching consequences.
“A simple argument involving an Ashanti person in Dormaahenkro could escalate and lead to retaliation if something unfortunate happens,” he warned.
Lawyer Frimpong expressed disappointment in the National Peace Council for failing to intervene, stressing that the body exists to prevent exactly such situations from escalating.
“It pains me that the National Peace Council has not said anything about this issue,” he stated.
He also called on the National House of Chiefs, particularly its research department, to step in and help calm tensions, arguing that traditional institutions must play a unifying role rather than allow divisions to deepen.
In addition, he urged the Ashanti Youth Association to engage the Dormaahene and appeal to him to stop the public attacks.
“We are all one people, and these matters should be handled in a way that promotes unity and peace,” he added.
Lawyer Frimpong concluded by cautioning that failure to address the issue early could have serious implications for national cohesion.
