Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the FomenaConstituency, Kwasi Anti Asamoah, has insisted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should retain Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as his running mate, arguing that consistency is critical to the party’s electoral success.

Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, Kwasi Anti Asamoah said changing Dr. Bawumia’s running mate would be a strategic mistake, stressing that the decision should mirror the approach adopted by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who maintained the same running mate across multiple elections before eventually winning.

“Dr. Bawumia cannot change his running mate. It is NAPO he will give it to,” he stated. “Former President Akufo-Addo took his running mate three times, and eventually they won.”

According to him, the NPP has already invested heavily in Dr. Opoku Prempeh and positioned him prominently within the party, making a change unnecessary and counterproductive.

“The party has invested in him and has put him out there already,” he said, adding that continuity would strengthen the party’s message and public confidence.

Kwasi Anti Asamoah dismissed suggestions that the running mate position could change, expressing absolute confidence that Dr. Opoku Prempeh would remain on the ticket.

“The running mate will never change. That is how it will be. The Almighty NAPO will be his running mate,” he declared.

He also defended Dr. Opoku Prempeh against criticisms of his public speaking, describing such assessments as unfair.

“NAPO speaks well. Those critiquing his speaking are wrong,” he said. “And even when he makes mistakes, he will be corrected. With time, he will be perfect.”

The former constituency chairman described Dr. Opoku Prempeh as a long-term political asset to the NPP and the most suitable choice to complement Dr. Bawumia.

“Napo is for the future and is the best as the running mate for Dr. Bawumia,” he concluded.
