Regional Communications Director hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Keskine Owusu Poku, Ashanti, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of misleading Ghanaians regarding the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative and the one million jobs claim.
Speaking on Angel FM, Dr. Owusu Poku alleged that the President’s statement about distributing 72,000 birds to 13,000 farmers under the Nkoko Nketenkete programme was inaccurate.
“President John Dramani Mahama lied about the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative since 72,000 birds have not been distributed to 13,000 farmers, and he has not delivered on the one million jobs,” he stated.
He further challenged the government’s claim that it has reduced public expenditure, arguing that the overall 2025 national budget exceeds that of 2024.
“They said they have cut down expenditure, but the overall budget for 2025 was bigger than that of 2024,” he said.
Dr. Owusu Poku also contended that many of the gains recorded in 2025 were rooted in policies initiated in 2024 under the previous administration. He attributed the economic foundation to measures such as the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which he said was implemented under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“The foundation of whatever the NDC did in 2025 started in 2024 with the benefit of the DDEP, all as a result of former President Nana Addo Dankwah’s decision. Now, the NDC is benefiting from it,” he argued.
He maintained that the NPP should not be excluded from credit for the current administration’s successes.
“We cannot take the NPP away from the successes of the current NDC government,” he asserted.
Dr. Owusu Poku concluded by emphasizing that the true state of the nation must be reflected in the everyday lives of ordinary Ghanaians rather than in benefits enjoyed only by those in higher positions.
“The true state of the nation should be reflected in the lives of the people at the base, the ordinary Ghanaian, not just the people in higher positions,” he said.
