The Ministry of Education has begun investigations into allegations that placement into some senior high schools can be secured through bribes as high as GH₵15,000.
The probe was triggered by a viral social media post attributed to Gertrude Adzo Borklo, who alleged that admission into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School could be bought at the said cost.
In a statement signed by Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry described the matter as “one of utmost seriousness” and confirmed that immediate investigations have been launched.
The statement dismissed the allegations as part of a “conspiratorial narrative” designed to create the false impression that the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is for sale.
“The BECE Computerised School Placement System is entirely free of charge. At no point is payment required to access this service,” the Ministry stressed.
Officials revealed that efforts to contact the individual behind the initial post had been unsuccessful, as her account was deactivated shortly after publication. The Ministry further noted that similar claims were being circulated by other anonymous accounts.
To address the situation, the Ministry is collaborating with National Security, the Cyber Security Authority, and other relevant agencies to track down those behind the allegations.
Parents and guardians have also been urged to report any attempts to extort money for school placements. Two hotlines have been provided for this purpose: 054 154 8223 (Calls) and 024 490 8957 (WhatsApp).
The statement concluded with a firm warning:
“The integrity and transparency of Ghana’s school placement system must be safeguarded. We urge the public to help expose unscrupulous people who seek to benefit unduly from this important national exercise.”
