In a vibrant display of cultural pride and national consciousness, staff of the Effutu Municipal Assembly on Monday, February 9, 2026, turned their workplace into a colourful celebration of Ghanaian heritage as they joined the nationwide Fugu Challenge, wearing locally made traditional attire to work.

The initiative, championed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu, Rev. Atta Mensah, and strongly supported by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Majeed Ayariga, formed part of a broader effort to promote Made-in-Ghana clothing and encourage public institutions to lead by example in sustaining local industries.

Clad in a rich variety of Fugu designs ranging from classic northern smocks to creatively modernized styles, staff members proudly showcased the beauty, versatility, and cultural significance of the traditional Ghanaian fabric. The display drew admiration within the Assembly and reinforced the message that Ghanaian textiles can confidently stand alongside global fashion brands.

Addressing staff, Rev. Atta Mensah charged Ghanaians to emulate the President’s consistent demonstration of pride in Ghanaian attire, describing it as a powerful statement of economic patriotism and cultural identity.

“When we wear Made-in-Ghana cloths, we are not only celebrating our culture, but we are also investing directly in our own people,” the MCE noted. “This simple act boosts local businesses, supports our weavers and artisans, and creates sustainable jobs across the country.”

He further emphasized that promoting Ghanaian brands on both local and international platforms is key to strengthening the national economy and preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

On his part, the Coordinating Director, Mr. Majeed Ayariga, described the Fugu Challenge as both inspiring and impactful, noting that it goes beyond fashion to tell the Ghanaian story.

“I find this challenge fascinating because it projects the rich cultural heritage of the Ghanaian people,” he said. “It reminds us that our traditions remain relevant and can be proudly displayed in modern professional spaces.”

Staff members expressed excitement and pride in participating in the challenge, describing the experience as refreshing and unifying. Many praised the Assembly’s leadership for endorsing the initiative and creating an enabling environment where cultural expression is encouraged.

Several participants noted that the initiative boosted morale and sparked renewed appreciation for Ghanaian craftsmanship, with calls for the challenge to be sustained beyond a single day.

The Effutu Municipal Assembly’s participation in the Fugu Challenge adds to growing nationwide efforts to promote local content, strengthen cultural identity, and position Ghanaian products prominently on the global stage; one proudly worn garment at a time.
