The Effutu Municipal Assembly has officially commenced the construction of three major school infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening basic education delivery within the municipality. The initiative was formally launched through a sod-cutting and ground-breaking ceremonies held on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The projects include the construction of a three-unit classroom block with gender-friendly amenities at UniPra South Basic School, a two-unit Kindergarten (KG) block with gender-friendly facilities at Methodist Basic School, and a six-unit classroom block with gender-friendly amenities at Don Bosco Basic School. Together, the facilities are expected to significantly improve learning conditions and address longstanding challenges of overcrowding in classrooms.
The separate ceremonies held at the respective sites for the projects were led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah, and supported by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Majeed Ayariga, along with other management members of the Assembly. Officials from the Effutu Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), school authorities, traditional leaders, and community members were also in attendance.
As part of the event, Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah formally handed over the project sites and contract documents to the contractors, symbolizing the official commencement of construction and the contractual agreement between the Assembly and the implementing firms regarding the projects expected to be completed within six months.
In his address, the MCE expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his continued commitment to education development across Ghana. He highlighted key national policies that, according to him, are already making a positive impact on the education sector, particularly within Effutu Municipality.
Among these was the No Fee Stress Policy, which allows first-year tertiary students to enroll without the immediate burden of paying academic fees, thereby expanding access to higher education for many Senior High School graduates. He also cited the Duty-Free Vehicle Policy for teachers, which enables educators to import vehicles without paying duties, improving their mobility, welfare, and overall working conditions.
“These interventions are critical to enhancing teaching and learning outcomes and motivating our teachers, who are at the heart of educational transformation,” Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah noted.
He further urged school authorities, students, and community members to take collective responsibility for the protection and maintenance of the facilities once completed, emphasizing that proper upkeep would ensure long-term benefits for future generations.
The new school infrastructure projects are expected to improve access to quality education, promote inclusivity through gender-friendly designs, and provide safer, more conducive learning environments for pupils in the beneficiary schools. Construction works are anticipated to progress steadily, with strong optimism from stakeholders that the projects will be completed within schedule.
Community members and education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely investment in the future of children in Effutu Municipality and a clear demonstration of the Assembly’s commitment to educational development.
