The Effutu Municipal Assembly (EMA) has inaugurated a 12-member Disaster Management Committee to assist the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in fulfilling its mandate under Section 27 of the NADMO Act, 2016 (Act 927).

The inauguration, held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, marks a renewed commitment by the Assembly to strengthen local disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.

The committee, chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah, brings together key institutional heads and stakeholders across the municipality. Members include the Municipal Director of NADMO, Chairperson of the District Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Risk Reduction, a representative of the Member of Parliament for Effutu, the Municipal Director of Health Services, the District Police Commander, and a representative from the Ghana National Fire Service.

Other members are the Municipal Information Officer, Municipal Director of Education, Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Municipal Planning Officer, and the District Social Development and Welfare Officer.

Delivering a welcome address on behalf of the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Planning Officer, Mr. Abubarkar Saddique Adam, emphasized the need for proactive measures in disaster mitigation and management. He noted that the committee would play a pivotal role in coordinating government policies on disaster management, pledging the Assembly’s full support towards achieving the committee’s objectives.

Speaking on behalf of the Effutu Member of Parliament, the Former Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, underscored the importance of unity and resilience in tackling disaster-related challenges.

He called for greater collaboration and resource mobilization to enable NADMO to deliver effectively on its core mandate.

In his keynote address, the MCE, Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in safeguarding lives and property within the Effutu Municipality.

He urged all stakeholders to offer their unwavering support to the committee’s work, emphasizing that disaster risk reduction is a shared responsibility.

“The committee’s role is to reduce risks, prepare for emergencies, and support NADMO in mitigating disasters in Effutu,” he stated. “Members must walk the talk and demonstrate commitment to the government’s efforts in disaster prevention and management.”

Hon. Rev. Mensah further assured that the Assembly would facilitate the mobilization of resources and build the capacity of NADMO officials to enhance early warning systems, response mechanisms, and relief operations. He also called for increased public sensitization on disaster prevention, urging NADMO to explore partnerships beyond government support to augment its operations.

The MCE concluded by cautioning committee members to conduct their work with the highest standards of transparency and accountability, adding that effective disaster management depends on integrity, teamwork, and dedication.

The inauguration ceremony reaffirmed the Effutu Municipal Assembly’s dedication to strengthening local disaster resilience and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
