Billionaire Elon Musk and Britain’s Prince Andrew have been named in a new set of files connected to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, released by Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee.
The documents, turned over by the Epstein Estate, include flight manifests, financial ledgers, daily schedules, and message logs. They are the third batch of files made public as part of an ongoing investigation.
One entry dated 6 December 2014 reads: “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?).” Musk has previously stated that although Epstein extended an invitation to visit his private island, he declined.
Another manifest records Prince Andrew on a flight from Teterboro, New Jersey, to West Palm Beach, Florida, on 12 May 2000, alongside Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 of conspiring with Epstein to traffic girls for sex.
A redacted ledger also references payments for massages for someone identified only as “Andrew” in February and May 2000. While press reports and Palace records confirm Prince Andrew was in the US during that period, it remains unclear if he was the “Andrew” referred to in the documents. The Duke of York has repeatedly and strongly denied any wrongdoing.
The files further list meetings or planned engagements with other influential figures, including Peter Thiel, Steve Bannon, and Bill Gates. In 2022, Gates admitted that meeting Epstein was a “mistake.” There is no suggestion that any of the individuals named were aware of Epstein’s criminal activities.
Epstein, who was first convicted in 2008 under a plea deal for sex offences involving a minor, was arrested again in 2019 on sex trafficking charges. He died by suicide in a New York jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial.
Commenting on the release, Democratic spokesperson Sara Guerrero said: “It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world. Every new document produced provides new information as we work to bring justice for the survivors and victims.”
Republicans on the committee, however, accused Democrats of politicising the disclosures and pledged to release the full set of files in due course.
