The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Dr. Eric Opoku, has cut the sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block and a teachers’ quarters at the Noberkaw D/A Basic School in the Ahafo Region.

The ceremony brought together the Ahafo Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive, traditional leaders, officials of the Ghana Education Service, and local residents. The project is expected to greatly improve teaching and learning in the community.

Dr. Opoku explained that the government is committed to delivering a fully furnished classroom block and housing for three teachers. He noted that earlier community fundraising efforts for the project had not been successful, making government intervention necessary.

He added that the contractor has been given five months to complete both facilities so that pupils and teachers can benefit without delay.

The Chief of Noberkaw, Nana Basoa Kumani III, thanked Dr. Opoku for fulfilling a long-standing promise. He recalled that the MP had earlier donated GH¢20,000 towards the project during a local fundraising effort and had assured residents that, if his party won the 2024 elections, the school project would be prioritized.

“Today, that promise is becoming a reality,” the Chief said, praising Dr. Opoku for keeping his word.
