The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has safely destroyed 29,435 unwholesome products as part of efforts to rid the market of unsafe goods and protect public health.

The products, including expired drugs, food items, cosmetics, and household chemicals, were seized during the second and third quarters of 2025 and disposed of at the Nkanfoa dumping site in Cape Coast. The items were burnt, buried, or crushed under the supervision of FDA officials.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the Central Regional Head of the FDA, Francisca Abena Asubonteng Anokye, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring that only safe and approved products reach consumers.

“The FDA will not relent in its efforts to regulate and protect public health. Those selling unwholesome products will face the full rigours of the law,” she warned.

Ms. Anokye reminded the public that under Section 132 (2 & 3) of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), the FDA is mandated to supervise the disposal of unwholesome regulated products in ways that do not endanger human or environmental health.

She also advised consumers to be vigilant when shopping, by checking expiry and ‘best before’ dates, examining packaging integrity, and avoiding bloated or dented canned foods, which are often signs of contamination.

The FDA says it will continue market surveillance and public education campaigns to safeguard consumers and ensure compliance among producers and retailers
